Motohito Fukushima was born in Kobe, Japan in 1978. His mother was piano teacher and grandmother was master of "Syamisen", Japanese traditional string instrument. Naturally this enviroment made him play various instruments. At age sixteen He started electric bass and played in clubs and music festivals in Kobe,Osaka and Kyoto.
After high school, Motohito attended Koyo Concervatoire (Berklee International Network School). At the same time he began his professional career with famous japanese players. He also led his own group and played in Kansai Area regurally.
In 1998 Motohito recieved scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston. Here he studied, played and worked with world well-known musicians such as Joe Lovano, Hal Crook, Tiger Okoshi, George Garzone, Ed Tomassi, David Clerk, Bruno Raberg, Hiromi Uehara and mention a few. He also performed in famous jazz festivals like Lower Roxbury Jazz festival with Dave samuels (Grammy Award Winner), Kansai International Jazz Festival with Florian Weber and many others. He performed Kaori Tanioka's composition "Malglit" as featured soloist with Greg Hopkins Concert Jazz Orchestra and this composition and performance won the first prize in IAJE Jazz Composition Competition 2003 in MA. He received “Outstanding performer Award ” before graduating summa cum laude with Bachelor of Music in Performance Major in 2002.
In 2004 He moved to NY. He performs regulary at 55 Bar, Cornelia street cafe, Cafe Vivaldi, Louis 649 and others.
