Motohito Fukushima was born in Kobe, Japan in 1978. His mother was piano teacher and grandmother was master of "Syamisen", Japanese traditional string instrument. Naturally this environment made him play various instruments. At age sixteen He started electric bass and played in clubs and music festivals in Kobe, Osaka and Kyoto.

After graduating Kobe high school, he began his professional career with famous Japanese musicians. He also led his own group and played in Kansai Area.

In 1998 Motohito received scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston. Here he studied, played and worked with world well-known musicians such as Joe Lovano, Hal Crook, Tiger Okoshi, George Garzone, Ed Tomassi, David Clerk, Bruno Raberg and mention a few. He also performed in famous jazz festivals like Lower Roxbury Jazz festival with Dave Samuels (Grammy Award Winner), Kansai International Jazz Festival with Florian Weber and many others. He received “Outstanding performer Award ” before graduating summa cum laude with Bachelor of Music in Performance Major in 2002.

Now he is based in NY and one of the in demand bassists with his versatility. The deep knowledge of South American rhythms and Jazz improvisation lead him to play with world top-class musicians regularly at famous venues and festivals includes legendary jazz club 55 bar, Blue Note, Iridium, Linclon Center, NJ Performance Art Center, Globalquerque, Sziget Festival (Hungary) and others. You can find his name on over 30 albums which genre includes Jazz, Rock, Funk, South American, Aflican, Avant-garde and strings quartet..
